Our History In 1998 several area residents, realtors, educators, business owners and church leaders established the 1-70 Northwest Development Corporations because they were concerned about deteriorating housing conditions in North St. Louis. The desire of 1-70 was to empower people through homeownership. The organization was incorporated as a non-profit in 1998. The goal of the board of directors was to improve housing conditions initially in the area northwest of Interstate 70 in the city of St. Louis. Tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) status was awarded I-70 Northwest Development by the IRS in 1999. In 2002, the Articles of Incorporation were amended to expand the service area to include all of the area north of Delmar Boulevard in the city. Our Mission I-70 Northwest Development Corporation endeavors to foster and promote community economic development by providing affordable housing and family support services to low and moderate income residents.
