I-70 Northwest Development Corporation is governed by a nine member volunteer board composed of neighborhood residents, business owners and religious leaders. The organization was incorporated as a tax exempt organization in 1998 and received IRS 501(c)(3) designation in 1999. The purpose of the organization is to address deteriorating neighborhoods by improving housing conditions in the City of St. Louis. The initial target area was northwest of Interstate 70. Since 2004, the focus has been expanded to include the area north of Delmar Boulevard.
I-70 Northwest Development Corporation has established an excellent track record of working with government agencies, corporate investors, local banks, elected officials and community groups.
Ruskin Townhomes was the first major development initiated by the organization. This 14 unit new construction development in the Mark Twain neighborhood was completed in 2002. Three for-sale homes were completed in the same neighborhhod in 2001.
The second major development was a collaborative effort between I-70 Northwest Development Corporation and North Newstead Association to construct Highland/NNA, 18 units of new construction completed in the Kingsway West and greater Ville neighborhoods in 2004.
The most recent development, the 12-unit Kingsway Townhomes was completed in the Kingsway West neighborhood in April, 2008. The organization plans to start construction on Kingsway Center by spring of 2009 adjacent to the new townhomes. This multi-purpose building will contain an adult daycare facility, computer lab, meeting room and office spaace for the organization. See the Capital Campaign tab for more information.
Bobby Gissendanner has been the consultant on all I-70 Northwest Development Corporation projects. RHCDA served as construction manager for site preparation on Ruskin Townhomes. RHCDA was consultant to North Newstead Association on the joint Highland/NNA housing development. I-70 NW Development Corporation is the managing general partner.
